Missouri softball vs Texas series-opener postponed due to inclement weather

Missouri softball's game against No. 1-ranked Texas scheduled for Friday at Mizzou Softball Stadium has been postponed due to inclement weather, the team announced in a post to its social media accounts. A further update Saturday morning, with further inclement weather in the forecast, again changed the start time for the series, with the opening game now set to start at 5 p.m. Saturday.
The Tigers and the Longhorns will now play a doubleheader Sunday, with first pitch for the two games scheduled for noon and 3 p.m.
The first game of the series in Columbia was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, but was moved up to a 10 a.m. first pitch in an attempt to avoid incoming weather.
Shortly before the scheduled first pitch, however, lightning was detected in the area and the game was postponed until at least noon. With further inclement weather expected in Columbia throughout Friday afternoon and evening, the game was postponed until later in the weekend.
Missouri (20-18, 2-7 SEC) picked up a midweek win over Missouri State on Wednesday in Columbia, but the Tigers only have two victories through their opening three SEC series.
Mizzou already has a win over a No. 1 team this season, as it avoided a sweep against Oklahoma. The Tigers also picked up a Game 3 win over Ole Miss on Monday in Oxford to avoid a sweep.
Texas (34-3, 7-2) is currently atop the SEC standings, with series wins on the road over No. 3 Florida and No. 17 Mississippi State and a home sweep of Auburn.
