South and Central Asia: Condemning the Attack on U.S. NGO in Kabul
The United States strongly condemns the Taliban attack against Counterpart International, a U.S. nonprofit organization and USAID implementing partner in Kabul. The organization targeted yesterday runs programs that encourage dialogue on peace, increase youth participation, and improve opportunities for women. Its Afghan and international staff dedicate their lives in service to the Afghan people and a peaceful, inclusive future for their country. This violent attack is a senseless assault on the noble values that the organizations like Counterpart support, such as service to others, education, and inclusion. We commend the brave Afghan security forces who responded to the attack and acted quickly to save lives. We extend our condolences to the families of the deceased and our wishes for a fast recovery to those wounded, and call again for the Taliban to stop attacking civilians intentionally.
